Description
* Vintage Glasbake Clear Glass Coffee Tea Hottle with BLACK LID. 46-254* Glasbake went through a few incarnations. It started as “Glasbak Ware” from 1917 to somewhere in the early 1920’s to “Glasbake” until 1953. It was then changed to “Glasbake by McKee Division of Thatcher Glass Corp.” from 1951 to 1961 and finally “Glasbake by Jeannette Glass” from 1961 to 1983.
*Based upon my research this is early Glasbake dated early 1920’s to 1953. I was not able to choose the proper category when listing. There wasn’t one. This is not McKee.
* The purpose of a Hottle is to keep a beverage hot or cold. This particular style of Hottle was used during the passenger train era and in the hotel industry. Hot tea or coffee was poured into the Hottle then the Hottle was placed inside the cup to warm it while on the tray. The tray was then delivered to the passenger or the guest.
*Approximate Measurements: 6.5” tall (with lid) 2” diameter across the mouth top 2.5”at the bottom with the widest point 3.5”. Holds 10 fluid ounces.
*The Hottle is marked on the bottom: Glasbake HOTTLE 3 U.S.A.
* Condition: No chips or cracks and is in beautiful, vintage condition with light surface wear from use.
