Description
This item is an exceptional fine bone china COOKIE JAR or canister from Maruri, manufactured in Japan in the early 1980s. It is part of a set that consists of this clock plus a battery-powered clock and a vase. The cookie jar has a removable top and is approximately 6 inches high and 5 inches in diameter. It is very delicate, both in design and in the high quality bone china material. I am listing the three pieces that were originally a set separately. The listing for the vase includes also the Maruri information on the bottom of the vase. All three pieces are in MINT condition. There are absolutely no chips, cracks, scratches or other damage whatsoever. The clock runs perfectly and it has been in use. The vase has been used a few times and I have not attempted to remove the modest discoloration at the bottom inside from when it was used for flowers. The canister or cookie jar has never been used for any purpose. The cookie jar and vase have in fact been kept in storage in a cupboard since the mid-1980s when I acquired these items (as the original owner). As those familiar with Maruri probably know, its collectibles in recent years have included very fine porcelain animal sculptures but it began long ago in Japan as an exceptional makers of the finest quality bone china. This set dates to that era with an exceptionally beautiful Art Deco figure as shown -- that is, really, an Asian art deco style evocative of high style in Shanghai or Tokyo of the 1920s in its combination of classical Western Art Deco we associate with New York or Vienna along with more Japanese or perhaps Chinese sensibility in the floral design and peacock-style dress of the woman shown. It really is a beautiful and remarkable design, and certainly not something that can be found anywhere today. (Maruri, after decades of production in Japan, eventually shifted its emphasis to Taiwan, later Malaysia and Mexico, ending production in Japan long ago; Maruri stopped making these bone china products and no one else has attempted anything at all like these.) SHIPPING for purchases of either or both of the items in addition to this cookie jar will be as stated for the clock alone -- that is, there is no extra shipping charge on either or both of the other pieces if the clock is purchased and everything sent together. Shipping for cookie jar and vase together will be the amount stated here for cookie jar alone. These pieces require extraordinary care in packaging, of course, and that will be assuredly be done in order to be certain the item(s) arrive in perfect condition.
